Woman coping with the emotions of an unplanned pregnancy

An unplanned pregnancy can cause intense fear, confusion, stress, uncertainty, and even a sense of isolation all at once. But you don’t have to navigate this alone. Learning about your options and finding support you trust can turn a chaotic experience into one you move through with clarity and confidence.

At Alabama Pregnancy & Family Center, we are prepared to help you do just that. Schedule your appointment today.

Confirm Your Pregnancy

A late period and a positive home test don’t always guarantee an active pregnancy. Home tests are generally reliable, but only when the instructions are followed closely and the timing is right.

It is estimated that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage. Sometimes a test can show a positive result even after a pregnancy has already ended, because your body needs time to clear the pregnancy hormones and return to its pre‑pregnancy baseline.

At Alabama Pregnancy & Family Center, we offer free pregnancy testing. We can also offer you a free ultrasound if your test is positive. An ultrasound determines if your pregnancy is viable (developing with a detectable heartbeat) or if you have had a miscarriage.

In addition, ultrasound identifies the location of your pregnancy and how far along you are, which is imperative information for protecting your health and safety.

Talk to Someone

You don’t have to shoulder the weight of an unplanned pregnancy alone. Opening up to a trusted friend, family member, mentor, or counselor can offer grounding and reassurance when everything feels overwhelming.

Sometimes simply saying your thoughts out loud can make the situation feel more manageable. Support from people who genuinely care about your well‑being can bring both comfort and clarity.

Take Care of Your Mental and Physical Health

Stress and anxiety can affect both your mind and body, especially during a season of uncertainty. Prioritizing small, steady habits such as balanced meals, enough rest, hydration, and healthy ways to manage stress can help you stay grounded.

Speaking with a professional counselor may also be helpful. Caring for yourself emotionally and physically can help you think clearly as you consider your next steps.

Find Support and Resources

Many women facing an unexpected pregnancy worry about finances, relationships, school, or long‑term goals. You’re not alone in those concerns, and there are resources designed specifically to help.

We offer free services such as pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, options education, parenting support, and referrals for additional assistance. Knowing what’s available can ease some of the fear and uncertainty you may be feeling.
